(Busan Tourism Orgranization)
A new gourmet guidebook has been released, offering a flavorful journey through Busan’s long-standing eateries and the history behind its food culture.
Titled Busan’s Old Restaurants, Busan’s Food Culture, the guidebook was published by the Busan Tourism Organization in collaboration with the Blue Ribbon Survey, Korea’s first private food review authority.
The book features 71 long-established restaurants that represent the essence of Busan cuisine, such as pork soup (gukbap), wheat noodles (milmyeon), and pufferfish stew (bokguk).
Not just a list of eateries, the guidebook delves into the historical context of Busan’s culinary evolution, shaped by the Japanese colonial era and the Korean War.
It spotlights iconic establishments like Pohang Pig Soup, Songjeong Samdae Gukbap, and Dongrae Halmae Pajeon, alongside hidden gems offering eel, sashimi, and traditional pancakes.
It also explores the origins of street favorites like seed hotteok and mul tteok, blending Busan’s food and history into one rich experience.
