Deep in Seoul’s popular Itaewon district, you’ll find Tongue and Groove Joint, a trendy spot to enjoy Korean barbecue that has earned itself a nod from the prestigious Michelin Guide since 2018.

The stylish eatery is a mix of Korean BBQ restaurant, Western steakhouse and pub. Diners can enjoy premium meat grilled to perfection paired with soju, beer and wine.

Watch as grill masters skillfully cook up tasty delights like Korean Hanwoo beef, pork and lamb, all aged for a minimum of 21 days, to your desired level. Standout bestsellers include pork belly, beef ribeye and lamb chops, but any item on the meat menu guarantees a heavenly experience, as the aging process enhances the tenderness and umami of the meat.

I particularly enjoyed the pork shoulder and beef brisket the most. It was surprising how distinct the aged meat tasted compared to the regular cuts I’m used to! I understand why people return to this restaurant time and again, despite its higher prices compared to typical BBQ spots.

The special dipping sauce is also a true gem, adding a unique flavor to the perfectly grilled meats. The free side dishes, such as fresh vegetable salads and pickled radish, create a well-rounded meal that’s sure to satisfy.

Tongue and Groove Joint also has a menu of premium fusion side dishes at different prices. I ordered the cheese salad and beef hot pot ramen to go alongside the meat.

Whenever I have special guests or want to treat my loved ones to great dinner, Tongue and Groove is one of my top picks. The restaurant provides a truly special experience for your friends and family. Solo diners are also welcome.

You can usually dine without a reservation, but it’s recommended to book ahead on weekends if your group is larger than 4 people. They also offer a private room that can accommodate up to 12 people for a fee of 50,000 won. Free parking is available for one hour.

From Itaewon Station’s Exit 3, Tongue and Groove Joint is a short 3-minute walk.
