Toxic jellyfish have been observed in the waters of Busan, Ulsan, and other regions leading authorities to issue alerts for the public to be careful of jellyfish stings.

According to the National Institute of Fisheries Science of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, a special warning has been issued for the Nomura-billed jellyfish in the waters of Busan, Ulsan, and other regions since the 5th of this month.

Nomura’s jellyfish, originating from China’s coast, are highly toxic and can grow up to 1-2 meters.

They pose significant risks to the fishing industry and beachgoers.

In response, the Ministry has intensified surveillance with weekly on-site monitoring and jellyfish removal operations using specialized ships. With the vacation season approaching, there are heightened concerns about stings at beaches.

Coastal governments are taking measures to prevent accidents, including jellyfish removal, safety announcements, and water access control.
