Chung Myung-whun, newly appointed Artistic Director of Italy’s Teatro alla Scala, will conduct Beethoven’s Fidelio in Busan on June 27 and 28 at the Busan Concert Hall. The performance marks his first opera in Korea since taking on the role in Milan.
Presented as part of the Busan Concert Hall Opening Festival, Fidelio is Beethoven’s only opera and is widely regarded as a reflection of the composer’s ideals of justice and freedom.
The work follows the story of Leonore, a woman who disguises herself to rescue her imprisoned husband.
The cast includes internationally recognized vocalists such as tenor Eric Cutler and soprano Hrachuhí Bassénz, along with the Asia Philharmonic Orchestra, composed of musicians from leading orchestras in Berlin, Tokyo, and Beijing.
The Busan City Choir and National Choir will also participate, with direction by Eom Sook-jeong.
The concert version of Fidelio is being presented as the closing event of the hall’s opening festival and is positioned as a milestone in Busan’s classical music programming.
Reservations are available through the Busan Concert Hall website and major ticket platforms.
