Haman-gun has announced the official approval of the ‘Hapgang District Pungryu Garden Creation Project,’ a key initiative under the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism’s Southern Region Wide-Area Tourism Development Plans.
The project has successfully passed the eligibility review for a new subsidy from the Ministry of Strategy and Finance and is set to begin full-scale implementation next year.
The project will develop a tourist attraction spanning from Jangam-ri, Daesan-myeon, where the Nakdonggang and Namgang rivers converge, to Yonghwasan in Gyenae-ri, Chilseo-myeon. The goal is to highlight the area’s exceptional natural beauty and rich historical heritage.
The Hapgang district is steeped in history, featuring the picturesque mountains and rivers of Yonghwasan and the significant “Yonghwasanha Dongbeomrok,” a historical record penned by local scholars after the Imjin War to restore public morale.
Haman-gun aims to transform these natural and historical assets into vibrant tourism resources, enhancing the cultural heritage value of the region and stimulating the local economy.
The full-scale project is slated to commence in 2025, with a planned investment of 45.08 billion won over four years.
Key elements of the project include the construction of the Dongbeom Pungryu Memorial Hall, the relocation of Mohyeonjeong Pavilion, the establishment of the Hapgangjeong Shelter and Banggujeong Pungryu Garden, and the operation of a ferry terminal with eco-friendly passenger ships.
These developments will create spaces where both locals and tourists can immerse themselves in the region’s natural beauty and historical significance.
The ‘Hapgang District Pungryu Garden Creation Project’ represents the first phase of the Southern Region Tourism Theme Garden Series.
It is anticipated to become a landmark tourist destination in the Gyeongnam inland, with future projects like the Changnyeong Color Garden and Uiryeong Fragrance Garden further enhancing the region’s tourism infrastructure centered around its unique nature and culture.
