(Hadong-gun)

Hyeongjebong, rising 1,115 meters above sea level in Akyang-myeon, Hadong-gun, is a prominent peak on the southern ridge of Jirisan and a renowned spot for spring azaleas and panoramic mountain vistas.

Connected to the 30-kilometer ridge line stretching from Samsinbong to Gososanseong, Hyeongjebong is recognized as one of Hadong’s eight scenic sites.

From the summit, hikers can take in sweeping views of Jirisan’s major peaks, including Cheonwangbong, Banyabong, Nogodan, and Jeseokbong.

The area is also known for its unique rock formations and seasonal floral displays, particularly azaleas in spring.

The name Hyeongjebong, meaning “brothers’ peak,” reflects a local legend of sibling loyalty.

Nearby attractions include Pyeongsa-ri’s Choi Champan House (famed from the novel Land), Hwagae Market, Ssanggyesa Temple, and Hadong’s wild tea fields.

Visitors can also enjoy local specialties such as Seomjin River jaecheop, freshwater crab, and Hadong green tea.

Entry to Hyeongjebong is currently restricted until May 15 due to recent forest fire safety measures; permits are required for access during this period.
