Seoul will commemorate the 80th anniversary of Korea’s Liberation Day with more than 30 cultural and artistic events held citywide throughout August.
The month-long celebration aims to reflect on the historical significance of liberation while offering exhibitions, performances, and educational programs accessible to all generations.
Nodul Island will be transformed into “Taegukgi Island,” with a Liberation Week opening ceremony on August 9, featuring performances, readings, and large-scale installations, including a massive Taegukgi on the Live House building.
On August 15, the Seoul Philharmonic will present a commemorative concert at the Seoul Arts Center.
The following day, a large-scale outdoor musical gala, 8.15 Seoul, My Soul, will take place at Seoul Plaza with leading musical actors.
Other highlights include the Korea-Central Asia co-produced musical Train No. 37, exhibitions at the Seoul Museum of History, traditional performances at Unhyeongung and Namsangol Hanok Village, guided historical tours, art workshops, and themed educational programs.
