Everywhere you look, advertisements are trying to sell you the latest device or services. Billboards and neon signs hound people on the streets and on their devices. These daily annoyances are something artists are trying to change.

D’strict, a digital design firm in South Korea, is taking back advertisement space and filling it with water … literally … well, sort of.

“WAVE,” an LED board on the top floor of COEX K-POP SQUARE in Seoul’s Gangnam District, is bringing passersby the soothing sounds and sights of a suspended ocean wave.

This 2-D screen is animated with anamorphic illusions to give the perception that the building has captured the perfect piece of ocean, the firm said. The 90-second wave runs every 30 minutes through the end of June.

With travel to Seoul still restricted, enjoy the video below and look out for the next display by d’strict – “Soft Body,” a surrealist animation replacing “Wave.” This one is a continuous collision of people and soft objects in the cube-like display.
