August is poised to be even hotter than July, with record-breaking temperatures expected.

The Korea Meteorological Administration announced that the rainy season officially ended around July 27th, but a persistent heat wave is forecast as the typhoon that influenced the rainy season dissipates.

Historically, early August has been hotter than late July in Busan. The highest recorded temperatures in August include 37.3°C in Busan on August 14, 2016, 38.8°C in Ulsan on August 8, 2013, and 38.5°C in Changwon on August 7, 2017.

July’s highest temperatures were slightly lower: 35.8°C in Busan on July 24, 1994, 38.2°C in Ulsan on July 14, 1994, and 39.0°C in Changwon on July 20, 1994.

Excluding Changwon, August has generally been hotter than July in Busan, Ulsan, and the Gyeongnam region.

With perceived temperatures exceeding 35°C, heat wave warnings have been issued across Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam as well as tropical nights for 10 days.
