CAMP WALKER, Republic of Korea — The Korean Lunar New Year—or Seollal—is widely recognized as one of South Korea’s most important holidays. The Year of the Tiger begins on Feb 1. this year. USAG Daegu wishes ROK—U.S. Alliance partners, friends, colleagues, neighbors along with Soldiers, Civilians and Families a safe and happy Lunar New Year.
The national holiday commemorates the first day of the lunar calendar. It is filled with traditions centered around family gatherings and often observed with ancestral rites and the wearing of hanbok.
The celebration lasts three days: the day before Korean New Year's day, Korean New Year's Day itself, and the day after.
