Still on the hunt for the best burger, I decided to try Shinsegae chain restaurant NBB, which just popped up in Pyeongtaek last year.
NBB, which means No Brand Burger, opened its first location in Hongdae back in 2019. The burgers from NBB have quickly gained it some internet fame, and now the chain has rapidly expanded throughout the Peninsula.
You’ll find the clean and spacious restaurant a 5-minute-walk away from Pyeongtaek Station. I ordered from the kiosk and sat down to wait for my NBB signature burger, which set me back 3,500 won (or about $3.20) and chicken Caesar salad for 3,800 won.
The burger patties consist of a combination of ground beef and pork, which is why the price is just right. While the meat might not be attractive to burger purists who prefer 100 percent beef patties, the low cost wouldn’t allow me to pass up the promise of a tasty burger. Soon, my fully loaded burger arrived, and truth be told, despite the two pieces of melted American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onion, and sauce, it looked like a convenience store burger rather than fresh-made.
I took a skeptical first bite and found that the flavor took this burger beyond my expectations. It was tasty though the meat was slightly dry, but still a steal for the price. The Caesar salad was a generous portion and worth every penny.
The rest of NBB’s menu will also give you a lot of bang for your buck. Among other burger options, the Meat Mania burger stood out to me. This one comes stacked with two thick patties, two slices of cheese, onion, pickle, and topped with an egg. For sides, NBB has coleslaw, cheese balls, chicken nugget and more. And, I’m already planning my next visit, where I’m going to try NBB’s baguette pizza sprinkled with cheese and a variety of toppings to choose from.
NBB does not offer customization of its burgers and your drink refill is free the first time only. But, you’ll get a decent meal for a low price, and that’s what makes NBB a good choice to get your burger fix.
