Pusan National University Hospital was founded in November of 1956 in accordance with the establishment principle of the national university hospital and is contributing to medical advancement and improvement of national health through education, research and treatment. It is an advanced general hospital which has 1,311 beds. It has 33 departments including internal medicine, surgery, dental clinic and Korean medicine, etc., and affiliated organizations including Biomedical Re-search Institute and CMIT (Convergence Medical Institute of Technology), as well as around 30 specialized laboratories, 17 medical centers specialized in certain diseases and 6 specialized center designated by the nation (Trauma Center (largest in Asia), Regional Center for Respiratory Diseases, Regional Emergency Medical Center, Busan Cancer Center, Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Center, Busan Dental Clinic Center for the Disabled). In addition, the hospital was reaccredited from the Ministry of Health and Welfare as a qualified and safe medical institution for the third time.
Special Centers
- Health Promotion Center Starting from May 1st, 1996, the Health Promotion Center has been running a personal health screening program in a comfortable environment for the health of the community. Also, through the confirmation of results by family medicine professors, rapid outpatient care is provided. VIP Hospital Stay Checkup is conducted by a doctor and coordinator (nurse) who are in charge of the VIP Hospital Checkup. Patients can have enough rest in the exclusive premium ward for precise examination of various cancers and cerebellar blood vessels. In addition, the hospital operates company health checkup and foreign health checkup programs for customized screening.
- Infertility Center Since the establishment in 1984, the Pusan National University Hospital Infertility Center has given birth to triplets by in vitro fertilization, as the second of the national university hospitals. Also in 1994, · The Infertility Center installed the micro-manipulator for the second time as a national university, and actively solved the Infertility problem caused by male factors. Through the team of professors specializing in obstetrics & gynecology, urology, and researchers. Thousands of newborns have been born with more than 6000 cases of in · vitro fertilization. The Infertility Center is contributing greatly to the birth of newborn babies in Korea through the best research facility in Korea and the continuous research and consultation by the specialist.
- Spine Center The Spine Center opened on December 29, 2015 and has established an integrated medical service system as the first in the Busan and Gyeongsangnam-do region with professors specializing in spinal diseases from Neurosurgery, Orthopedic, Rehabilitation Medicine, Neurology, Anesthesiology and Radiology. A team of professors specializing in spinal dis-eases provides a range of medical services from high-risk surgeries to the latest non-surgical spinal treatments based on accurate diagnosis using high-tech imaging diagnosis devices.
- Robotic Surgery Center The Robotic Surgery Center was established in December 2013 to lead robotic surgery development in the region by introducing fourth-generation robotic surgery equipment(da Vinci Si) of state-of-the-art system. The Robotic Surgery Center strives to improve patients’ quality of life by leveraging the strengths of robotic surgery, which are to ensure accurate surgery, to require minimum incision and to facilitate quick recovery. On May 23, 2019, the Center achieved 1,000 robotic surgeries, leading to the development of local robotic surgery.
- Busan Cancer Center The Busan Cancer Center provides the best medical services through a cooperative care system between the Departments of Radiation Oncology and Diagnostic Radiology and its faculty members specialized in cancer. Notably, the center is well known for early diagnosis using the newest medical equipment, such as Tomo Therapy, and the Gamma Knife Perfection. With such cutting-edge equipment, the center provides customized integrated treatments for patients.
- Stem Cell Transplantation Center The Stem Cell Transplant Center operates Asepsis Ward equipped with twelve sickbeds and manages purity by installing HEPA filters. For providing more professional medical services, The stem cell processing laboratory is equipped with a system for leukapheresis, stem cell processing, refrigeration and thawing of stem cells and state-of-the-art equipment such as ‘Clini MACS’ for discordance transplantation between parents and children or transplantations for high-risk patients.
