The Tongyeong Hansan Battle Cultural Foundation will host the 2024 Tongyeong Cultural Heritage Night Tour on September 20 and 21.

Themed Tongjeyeong Night Song, the event will take place at the historic Tongyeong Samdosugun Tongjeyeong and nearby Tongjeyeong-geori areas, offering a rich blend of traditional performances, cultural experiences, and exhibitions.

This night tour program is designed to highlight Tongyeong’s unique cultural heritage through an immersive nighttime experience. Visitors can enjoy exhibitions, performances, and interactive activities that reflect the city’s historical and cultural significance, with a focus on sites of cultural heritage.

The opening performance will feature a collaboration between Korean traditional musician Park Ae-ri and performing artist Poppin Hyun-jun, blending tradition and modernity on the main stage at Tongjeyeong-geori. Their performance, titled Tongjeyeong Night Song, will set the tone for the event.

An exhibition of Tongyeong’s traditional crafts will reinterpret the works of national intangible cultural heritage holders from the historic 12 Workshops. These workshops, known for producing the finest traditional Korean crafts, will showcase modern interpretations of their renowned craftsmanship at the Tongjeyeong.

Visitors can also participate in experiential programs that celebrate the region’s rich artistic traditions. Highlights include Namhaean Byeolsingut, Seungjeonmu, and Tongyeong Ogwangdae, which present the essence of Tongyeong’s folk arts.

Additionally, the Samdosugun Tongjeyeong martial arts and archery experiences will allow visitors to step into the shoes of the Joseon Navy warriors who defended the Korean coast during the Imjin War.

For those who prefer a more guided experience, pre-registration tours will be available, offering a closer look at Tongyeong’s modern cultural heritage and the historic Dadamsang. The entire event will also be live-streamed on YouTube, allowing participants to join in from anywhere in the world.

The night tour will also feature expanded street performances and enhanced landscape lighting throughout Tongyeong, creating a festive atmosphere for citizens and tourists alike to enjoy the city’s vibrant cultural scene well into the night.
