The city of Busan, in collaboration with the Busan International Architecture Festival Organizing Committee, has transformed two outdated bus stops into modern, eco-friendly hubs called ‘Hug Station’.
Located at Busanjin-gu Office and Hwain Apartment, the Hug Station project prioritizes the region, people, and environment.
The project, with a budget of 210 million won sponsored by the Korea Housing & Urban Guarantee Corporation (HUG), was designed by local architects Shin Joo-young and Hwang Hyeon-hye from MOC Architectural Firm.
These new bus stops feature expanded seating, individual chairs for privacy, and environmentally conscious designs that preserve the surrounding natural environment, including existing trees.
To enhance safety, the bus stops are equipped with lighting for nighttime visibility, and the bus stop ceilings have been illuminated.
Additionally, billboards will feature local art and news, creating a community-centered space.
