The Busan Subway Union has announced plans to initiate an indefinite strike beginning October 11th if negotiations with management do not reach a resolution.

The union, which secured the legal right to strike after passing a collective bargaining vote last month with 87.6% approval, stated that the strike would commence with the first train of the day if no agreement is made by the evening of October 10th.

Negotiations between the union and management, which began on June 4th, have occurred 15 times but have yet to resolve key issues.

The union is demanding a 4.8% wage increase and the hiring of 500 additional safety personnel. However, management has countered with a 1.5% wage increase, citing financial constraints as the reason for not meeting staffing demands.

A press conference is scheduled this morning at 10 a.m. in front of Busan City Hall, where the union will outline its stance and provide updates on the final negotiation efforts.
