a park in Busan

(haps Magazine Korea)

Starting in June, Busan City will pilot a program allowing companion dogs on designated lawn areas in major parks across the city.

The initiative will run through October in collaboration with 16 district offices and the Busan Facilities Corporation.

Previously, pets were not permitted on park lawns. However, the city is responding to growing demand, reflecting that about 30% of households nationwide now raise pets, by opening select areas as shared spaces for both people and their companion animals.

During the trial, users will be permitted to bring simple, portable amenities such as small shades, chairs, and mats, provided they are removed after use.

Safety and cleanliness will be emphasized, with strict requirements for dogs to be leashed, waste to be properly disposed of, and amenities placed in non-disruptive areas.

Exact park locations and operational methods will be determined independently by each district and relevant agencies, based on city-issued guidelines.

User feedback and park conditions will be monitored throughout the pilot period to inform future policy decisions.
