As you grow accustomed to driving on the peninsula, you may notice a sight that would usually mean you’re getting pulled over by the police.
But, don’t worry! In Korea, police cruisers keep their red lights flashing as they patrol, even during non-emergencies per the Korea Road Traffic Act.
Though the use of flashing lights on police cars is common, pay attention to additional actions police will take to indicate you are, in fact, getting pulled over. When an officer is attempting to pull you over, they’ll use flashing lights, sirens and broadcast your license plate number over their loudspeaker. Pay attention to these cues, then slow down and safely pull over.
If you see police lights, don’t panic. Stay alert, follow local driving laws and speed limits. And, always remember to drive safely!
