Dwaejji Gukbap has emerged as the most popular Busan dish among Taiwanese visitors, according to a survey by the Busan Tourism Organization of 15,796 Taiwanese tourists, with 66.9% naming it their favorite.

Busan fish cakes ranked second (37.4%), followed by seed hotteok (22.4%) and grilled eel (19.4%).

From January to May this year, 249,968 Taiwanese tourists visited Busan, making Taiwan the top source of foreign visitors to the city.

To capitalize on this popularity, the Tourism Organization has partnered with Taiwanese airline Tiger Air to create the “Busan Spicy Pork Rice Bowl,” a fusion in-flight meal inspired by Dwaejji Gukbap.

From March 30 to August 4, 2,166 meals were sold. Dwaejji Gukbap ads also appeared on over 100,000 Tiger Air boarding passes between March 1 and April 5.

With new routes planned by Air Busan, EVA Air, and Jeju Air, Busan expects even more Taiwanese arrivals in the coming months.
