(Stripes Korea)

With numerous attractions in Seoul, many within close distances, riding a bike can be a fun way to explore this vast, dense city. Seoul City offers an unmanned bike rental service, called Seoul Bike or Ddareungi (따릉이), at a very affordable price with a user-friendly setting. There are over 2,000 Seoul Bike rental stations in Seoul. You can rent a bike at one location and return it at another, making it convenient to pick up and drop off the bike wherever it suits your trip. The bike rental is available to both Koreans and foreigners, and you don’t even need to create an account. For more details, follow these steps on how to use the app.

1. Download the Seoul Bike app

Purchase the pass, find available bikes, and rent one anytime through the app. Click “foreigner” if you want to use it in English.

2. Find a bike station

On the app, search for nearby bike stations and real-time info on available bikes. Bike stations are all around Seoul, and many subway stations have bike stations nearby.

3. Purchase the pass

Select “Purchase pass” on the app and choose the pass that fits your trip. Seoul Bike accepts foreign credit cards with Visa, MasterCard and JCB logos.

- 1-day passes: 1,000 won for one hour / 2,000 won for two hours / 5,000 won for all day

* NOTE: Any of these day passes are valid for 24 hours, allowing unlimited bike rentals within that period. The only difference between the passes is the return time. With the one-hour and two-hour passes (1,000 won and 2,000 won), users should return the bike within the time limits. When exceeding the return time, an extra fee of 200 won will be charged for every five minutes.

Although your first trip is over, the pass remains valid for 24 hours from the first rental. So, you can rent a bike again anytime without extra charge until the pass expires. These passes are ideal for those who need to visit several destinations in a day. You can simply return the bike once you arrive at the destination. Then restart your rental with the pass on the app to move to your next destination. For the all-day pass (5,000 won), you can use the bike continuously without returning it until the 24-hour period ends.

4. Rent a bike

- Make sure to check that the bike you’re renting has no issues with the chains, brakes, and tires for your safety.

* If you have any problem with this process, please check your phone’s GPS settings. Also, ensure that Bluetooth is not paired with other devices.

5. Enjoy riding!

You can ride wherever you want and then return the bike to any random bike station within Seoul.

6. Return bike on time

(Place the bike in a bike rack at a bike station.)

(Lock the bike by using the lock lever.)

Find a bike station nearby you before your return time passes. Place the bike in a bike rack at a bike station. If there is no empty rack, try to park the bike as close to the rack as possible. The most crucial part of the returning process is to lock it using the lock lever located on the back of the seat.
