(Geoje City)

Geoje City has announced the rebranding of its city slogan and mascot in celebration of the 30th anniversary of its establishment in 1995. The current slogan, Blue City Geoje, and character Mongdol Mongsooni will be replaced by the new slogan Big Heart Geoje and the character Mongkku.

The new slogan, Big Heart Geoje, is inspired by the meaning of the name Geoje which translates to “great salvation.”

It reflects the city’s historical role as a protector during national crises, such as the Imjin War and the Korean War, and its future vision of becoming a global tourist destination that welcomes and inspires all who visit. The slogan symbolizes the city’s inclusive spirit and compassionate heart, aligning with its aspirations for growth and global recognition.

The heart symbol in the slogan represents the city’s values through three colors: blue, red, and yellow. Blue signifies Geoje’s beautiful marine environment, red reflects the city’s warmth and emotional connection with its people, and yellow symbolizes inclusiveness, harking back to its protective role in times of national emergency.

The newly introduced character, Mongkku, is a playful combination of “dream” and “Geoje’s iconic Mongdol stones.” Described as a magical baby Mongdol, Mongkku represents hope, joy, and happiness, embodying the city’s promise to make dreams come true with kindness and love.

Geoje City plans to gradually replace symbolic sculptures across the city with new designs featuring the updated slogan and character. Additionally, the city will develop a variety of goods and souvenirs incorporating the new brand identity to promote it among both residents and tourists.

The rebranding process began in November of last year, with active participation from citizens through contests and surveys.

The city will officially unveil the new slogan and character during a special ceremony on October 4, marking Geoje Citizens’ Day and commemorating the 30th anniversary of the city’s unification.
