(Gimhae City)
The excavation site of the World Heritage-listed Daeseong-dong Ancient Tombs will be open to the public during the 2025 Gaya Cultural Festival, offering a rare and meaningful glimpse into the ongoing archaeological work.
The public opening is scheduled for three days, from April 11 to 13 with a special on-site event led by an expert advisory committee at 11 a.m. on the first day.
On April 12 and 13, visitors will be able to register on-site for guided tours, with each session limited to 20 participants for safety reasons.
Tours will be conducted twice daily — one in the morning and one in the afternoon — and will last approximately 20 minutes.
Surrounding the excavation area, an informational display will showcase findings from the past decade, allowing visitors to learn about the historical significance and ongoing research of the Daeseong-dong Ancient Tombs.
The site, which sustained damage during record-breaking rainfall last September, is currently undergoing a relic recovery and preservation project, fully funded by the National Heritage Administration.
The Gaya History and Culture Research Institute is leading the investigation, examining soil layers and recovering any remaining artifacts at the site.
Following the investigation, Gimhae City plans to complete a detailed restoration design and carry out preservation work before the rainy season begins in June.
This will be done in coordination with the National Heritage Administration to ensure proper restoration and long-term protection of this culturally significant heritage site.
