Hadong-gun in Gyeongnam province will once again be covered in vibrant red as the 11th Bukcheon Poppy Festival takes place from May 16 to 25 in the flower fields of Jikjeon Village, Bukcheon-myeon.

Set against the scenic backdrop of the southern slopes of Jirisan, the area features sprawling fields of over 100 million poppies along with cornflowers, baby’s breath, and goldenrod across a site the size of 21 soccer fields.

Often called the “Little Europe of Korea,” the landscape offers an otherworldly atmosphere that draws visitors from across the country each May.

The poppy fields, known for their dazzling vermilion hue and symbolism of beauty and remembrance, provide the centerpiece for a photo-friendly route that winds through the floral expanse.

Visitors can also enjoy a rail bike ride alongside Bukcheon Station and explore a market selling local specialties such as seasonal produce, honey, and green tea.

A new addition this year is “A Certain Forest of Jirisan,” a park created on the former Bukcheon Middle School grounds, offering family-friendly rest areas and green space.

Nearby attractions including the Bukcheon Rail Bike, Train Village, and Hadong Green Tea Fields add to the appeal, making it a destination worth more than a day trip. The sunsets, casting golden light over the red blooms, are especially popular with photographers.

While access is free, rail bike reservations are recommended in advance due to limited capacity during the festival period.
