The Seoul Friendship Festival 2025 is set to take place on May 24 and 25 at Gwanghwamun Square, Cheonggye Plaza, and the Cheonggyecheon area, offering a unique opportunity for visitors to experience diverse cultures from around the world.

Under the theme “Seoul and the World, Connected Through Culture,” the festival aims to foster cultural exchange between Seoul citizens and international visitors.

First held in 1996 to commemorate Seoul Citizens’ Day, this annual event has grown into one of the city’s premier global festivals, welcoming thousands of attendees each year.

In 2024, the festival saw participation from 70 embassies and cultural organizations and attracted 270,000 visitors, including many foreign tourists.

This year’s event will feature a traditional costume parade, cultural performances, embassy promotional booths, an international photography exhibition, and food zones showcasing global cuisine and K-food specialties.

Additionally, 12 international performance groups will take the stage, while embassies will host food classes introducing authentic recipes from their respective countries.

The opening ceremony on May 24 at noon will include a parade with representatives from embassies, international residents, and performers from Seoul’s friendship cities, marking the start of the vibrant festivities.

Following the ceremony, Gwanghwamun Square will transform into a cultural hub with performances from international artists, while Cheonggyecheon will host an International Food Zone, offering delicacies from countries such as Hungary, Brazil, and Colombia.

This year’s festival will also celebrate World Day for Cultural Diversity, recognizing individuals who have contributed to multicultural initiatives in Seoul.

At the Embassy Zone, visitors can experience different cultures through traditional costume displays, cultural exhibitions, and the sale of unique souvenirs and specialty goods.

The K-Food Zone will highlight Korean favorites such as Seoul Ramen, Jajangmyeon, and banana milk, catering to international visitors eager to experience Korea’s food culture.

The International Photography Exhibition will showcase images of global landmarks, cuisines, and cultural heritage, while the Seoul mascot “Haechi” and Soul Friends Photo Zone will offer interactive experiences for families and tourists.
