Seoul Media Canvas exhibition to showcase emerging artists

Starting September 21, the Seoul Media Canvas will host its third exhibition of the year, featuring media art by emerging artists.
The outdoor exhibition platform, located on the outer wall of Woori Bank at Mallidong Plaza, will run daily from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., offering free viewings until December 19.
The Seoul Media Canvas, a 29m x 7.7m digital art platform, has been a hub for showcasing media art and video content since its launch in 2017. It has supported emerging artists and held over 736 exhibitions, including animation screenings and literary collaborations.
This latest exhibition will display 21 works from new artists selected through a competitive process, alongside five pieces focused on the theme of “nature.”
Running every evening, the exhibition will feature fresh perspectives from emerging artists who use digital art to explore topics like empathy, personal experience, and urban nature. Visitors can further enrich their experience by using the Seoul Media Canvas app, which offers in-depth artwork explanations and soundscapes.
The exhibition includes two parts: the Emerging Artists Contest and the Nature Project Exhibition.
The Emerging Artists Contest was designed to discover and support new talent in media art, offering both technical guidance and exhibition opportunities.
The 21 selected artists, chosen from an initial pool of 40 finalists, present pieces that reflect their unique perspectives and personal narratives, connecting with audiences through themes of warmth, modern anxiety, and even whimsical fantasy.
The Nature Project Exhibition presents five artists’ diverse interpretations of nature and the changing seasons. From traditional Korean aesthetics to surreal urban landscapes, these works invite viewers to see the beauty of nature through new and creative lenses.
Additionally, Seoul is currently accepting submissions for its Animation Exhibition and Nature Project 2nd Edition contests, which will be featured in the final exhibition of the year.
The animation contest seeks works on the theme of “dreams,” encouraging artists to explore various interpretations of the concept. The second round of the Nature Project will continue to focus on artistic expressions of nature and the four seasons. Submissions are open until October 20.
