Seoul’s tethered gas balloon ride “Seoul Moon,” which began operating in Yeouido last August, has drawn more than 50,000 riders in its first year, including 17,000 foreign tourists, according to the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
The balloon, which rises 130 meters over the Han River, has operated 5,400 flights without incident since its launch.
The city has expanded operations during peak seasons, introduced family discounts, and partnered with seven global online travel agencies such as Klook, KKday, and Trip.com to make reservations easier for overseas visitors.
To celebrate the first anniversary, Seoul will hold events on Fridays through Sundays from August 22 to 31, featuring photo zones, quizzes, and games.
Officials noted that foreign visitors now account for about 40 percent of monthly ridership, underscoring the attraction’s role as a nighttime tourism landmark.
