Geoje Island Flower Festival

(Geoje City)

The 18th Geoje Island Flower Festival, themed “A Healing Journey in Search of Flowers,” opened on October 26 at the outdoor stage of the Geoje City Agricultural Development Center and will run until November 3.

Known as Korea’s premier handmade flower festival, the event uniquely incorporates Geoje’s culture with flowers grown by the Geoje City Agricultural Development Institute. Entry to the festival grounds is free, though access to specific attractions like the jungle dome and jungle tower requires separate admission fees.

Festival highlights include grand chrysanthemum sculptures of Geoje landmarks like the Geoje Blue House, Meredith Victory, Giseong Hall, and the Geoje KTX, beautifully displayed around the Agricultural Development Institute’s lawn square.

Visitors can enjoy an array of autumnal sights at Nongshim Theme Park, with 30 varieties of topiaries and over 100 types of chrysanthemums and wildflowers. The World Camellia Garden, featuring 250 varieties of camellias from Korea and abroad, is also a key attraction. This year, festival hours extend to 8 p.m. on a trial basis, allowing for day and evening enjoyment.

The Cultural Arts Exhibition Hall showcases approximately 400 chrysanthemum bonsai from the Chrysanthemum Bonsai Research Association, alongside artistic displays of Geoje’s landmarks, Korean paintings, stone sculptures, calligraphy, and urban sketches, highlighting the region’s rich cultural heritage.

The festival offers a packed schedule of stage events, including the Geoje Magistrate Inauguration, a K-Hip-Hop Concert, Healing Music Festival, a Healing Fusion Korean Traditional Music Performance, the 12th Lee Si-woo National Song Festival, and the Youth Stocking Contest Finals.

Over 40 hands-on programs, such as sweet potato and peanut harvesting, plant-based activities, and various crafts, round out the experience.
