Namsangol Hanok Village, located at 28 Toegye-ro 34-gil, Jung-gu, Seoul, will hold the “Wedding Feast: Autumn Edition” on September 29 at 3 p.m.
This special event allows citizens to experience a traditional wedding reenactment, offering a rare chance to witness a ceremony that is not commonly accessible.
Running from March to November, the village typically hosts traditional weddings every weekend, although these ceremonies are private. To provide a public viewing, the “Wedding Feast” event is held twice a year in spring and autumn, allowing citizens to experience the beauty and significance of traditional Korean weddings.
The reenactment, held in the courtyard of the over 100-year-old Min Family House in Gwanhundong, follows the exact etiquette of noble families. The ceremony, which lasts approximately 40 minutes, includes rituals such as:
Jeonanrye — presentation of a goose to the bride’s mother,
Gyobaerye — the couple’s ceremonial bow,
Seocheonji-rye — vows to live faithfully as a couple,
Seobaewoo-rye — vows to be good spouses,
Geumbae-rye — sharing of wine between the bride and groom.
Lively traditional music and expert commentary will accompany the event, making it a more immersive experience for attendees.
Additionally, this year’s event will feature special roles, such as the Chorongdongi, who lights the groom’s path with a lantern, and the Gireokabeom, who carries a goose for the groom’s entrance, both selected through an open recruitment process, allowing citizens to actively participate in the ceremony.
The event is open to all visitors without prior reservation or admission fees.
