Seoul will host the 2024 Seoul Hanok Week from September 27 to October 6, celebrating the beauty of traditional Korean houses (Hanok) in Bukchon and Seochon.
This 10-day event offers a unique blend of modern art exhibitions, cultural tours, and hands-on experiences.
Highlighting the event is “Resonance of Space,” an exhibition featuring 10 contemporary artists displaying their works in 10 iconic Hanok.
Visitors can stroll through the picturesque Hanok alleys and explore these art-infused spaces, including renowned private Hanok residences and public sites in both Bukchon and Seochon.
The event also offers various activities such as traditional tea and alcohol tasting, flower arrangement workshops, village tours with residents and architects, and outdoor concerts.
Notable programs include a guided tour of Bukchon with resident Mark Tetto, an architectural open house led by architect Jo Jung-goo, and traditional Korean archery experiences at Hwanghakjeong Pavilion.
A series of art and cultural exhibitions will accompany the event, including a showcase of Nordic furniture and crafts inspired by Seoul Hanok, and a tribute to the 10-year anniversary of architect Lim Jin-woo’s “Seoul Landscape Sketches.”
During the weekends, visitors can enjoy performances like flute ensembles, string quartets, and traditional Korean music at venues like the Seoul Craft Museum and the Hanok Pavilion.
Seoul Hanok Week also includes exciting giveaways, such as a chance to win a stay at a public Hanok in Seochon for those who share their experiences and photos from the event. Additionally, discounts on Hanok hotels and other special promotions will be available.
All programs, except for the docent-led tours, are free. Pre-registration is required for select events, and more details can be found on the Seoul Hanok Portal (hanok.seoul.go.kr).
