Zigzag Art Center

(Zigzag Art Center)

The Zigzag Art Center, a new 2,000-pyeong (approx. 6,600 sq ft) private exhibition space located on the west side of LCT in Haeundae opened to the public on June 1.

This marks the third major art space launched by Director Lee Su-jeong, following Dongbaek Art Center (1992) and Radium Art Center (2013).

The center features an indoor gallery with ten exhibition zones, a bakery café, academy hall, VIP room, and art shop, along with a 1,600-pyeong outdoor sculpture garden overlooking the sea. Among the highlights is Patrick Moya’s large-scale outdoor installation “The Gods of Olympus,” composed of 12 colorful Corinthian-style columns.

The inaugural exhibition, Zigzag Collection 1958–2025, co-hosted by the Busan Ilbo, presents around 200 works spanning painting, sculpture, photography, video, and digital media. It includes key pieces from the French ‘New Realism’ movement by Yves Klein, César, Arman, Sosno, and Moya, as well as works by British artist Damien Hirst.

This exhibition also commemorates the 30th anniversary of the 1995 Ecole de Nice exhibition co-hosted by Busan Ilbo and Dongbaek Art Center, which drew nearly 30,000 visitors and helped introduce French contemporary art to Korea. Many of the artists featured in that exhibition have since passed away, but their legacy continues through this new space.

Zigzag’s indoor exhibition is divided into three sections: Moya Hall, which explores the media-rich work of metaverse pioneer Moya; a hall dedicated to New Realist artists like Sosno and Hirst; and 42 Hall, which highlights the interdisciplinary work of Ralph Hutchings (alias ’42’), a contemporary artist from the French Riviera.

Zigzag Art Center plans to offer art education programs and special exhibitions in addition to its permanent collection.

Admission is 28,000 won for adults, 20,000 won for middle and high school students, and 14,000 KRW for children.

Group visits and educational packages are also available.
