smoky fried rice

smoky fried rice (Wolgyesu)

Every person has food that reminds them of their hometown. The feeling when you eat the food and it instantly makes you feel like you are eating with your friends and family back home.

For me, as an Indonesian student, one of the dishes is fried rice. I found the closest taste in Wolgyesu around Kyungsung University and it tastes incredible.

The first time I discovered the restaurant was when my friends and I were looking for a place to have dinner. As we strolled around an alley, there was a menu stand, and the food looked promising. Thankfully, it matched our expectations and has become one of our go-to food places.

One particular day, I decided to order their Beef Fried Rice because my friends said that it has a very similar taste to the Indonesian version. Sure enough, the first bite that I took instantly cured my homesick feeling, and a sense of comfort came through. From that day, it became my favorite thing on the menu that I regularly order.

The oily taste from the rice with rich seasonings, and smoked beef, topped with shredded eggs is a perfect combination. It also comes with ssamjang sauce that adds a kick to the flavor.

For a reasonable price of 9,500 won, it is definitely worth the price and is a quick, filling meal for those looking for something a little different.
