(Jagalchi Ajjimae Market)
After 13 years of fishery attraction development, the Jagalchi Ajjimae Market in Jung-gu is finally moving forward with tenant selection.
The market, originally completed in 2022 as part of the Jagalchi Fisheries Attraction Project initiated in 2012, faced over three years of delays due to merchant opposition over tenant selection and concerns regarding construction quality.
Gyeongnam Express New Busan Tourism Co., Ltd. has been selected as the new operator, and the city will soon post a lottery notice for store placements in the market’s first and second phases.
Approximately 220 tenant spots will be allocated, with the initial contract set for three years and potential for future extensions.
The plan is to conduct the lottery next month, finalize contracts in May, and begin interior construction in June, aiming for an opening by the end of June.
The first floor will host dried and fresh fish stores, while the second floor will accommodate an eel restaurant and a raw fish restaurant, reviving a market that has been a local fixture since the Korean War.
