Located in Daeyeon-dong, close to Pukyoung National University, Yehyangwon’s Korean-Style Chinese cuisine has been a staple in the area for nearly a decade.
A casual Chinese restaurant, this go-to place usually gets really busy at lunch by hungry students, locals, and workers around the area.
Regulars usually order the traditional Korean-style Chinese favorites — jajangmyeon, an affordable and filling black-bean sauced noodle dish for 5,000 won or jjamppong for lunch, or if they are feeling more peckish, a large plate of tangsuyuk, or sweet and sour pork.
My lunch companion and I ordered Samseongan jajangmyeon, jjamppong, and tangsuyuk. The noodles were cooked just right; chewy and soft. There were so many vegetables and meat in the rich, but sweet and salty homemade jajang sauce, though it balanced well with the noodles and other ingredients.
If you’re in the mood for something a little spicy, their jjamppong is a great choice. Their savory soup somehow tastes a bit like barbecued seafood, and indeed, they aren’t shy in filling your bowl with goodness from the sea. The spiciness of the broth is neutralized when consumed with the noodles, and the dish doesn’t disappoint if you’re looking to get your jjampong fix.
Of course, like most Chinese restaurants in Korea, they have an extensive menu. They have around 30 different offerings between 13,000 won to 50,000 won and 20 kinds of rice and noodle dishes between 5,000 won to 23,000 won. Course meals are also offered from 66,000 won to 200,000 won if you want to try a variety of different foods.
Various kinds of Chinese alcohol, including Tsingtao, are served for 6,000 won to 250,000 won and Korean alcohol is also available from 3,500 won to 10,000 won.
Reservations are recommended for bigger groups. Before or after lunchtime will be ideal for those who prefer a slow and leisurely meal time. The owner loves music and has a nice sound system so if you happen to be there when it is not busy, you might be able to enjoy your requested songs while dining.
