master plan of new Seodaegu Station Plaza and parking lot in Daegu

(Daegu City)

Daegu Metropolitan City will open the new “Seodaegu Station Plaza and Parking Lot” in front of Seodaegu Station on Friday, November 15.

The Daegu Public Facilities Management Corporation will oversee safety and maintenance, creating a welcoming space for residents, travelers, and visitors.

This development is seen as a vital step in revitalizing the previously underdeveloped station area and promoting the growth of Seodaegu. The plaza and parking lot are expected to become a new gathering place for citizens and train users, while also easing transportation challenges through increased parking capacity.

The space in front of Seodaegu Station, once a neglected urban planning site used for junk storage, sand dumping, and warehousing, has been transformed into a lively public area through the plaza and parking lot project. This renovation improves the urban image around the station, bringing new life and functionality to the area.

Construction of the plaza and parking lots began in January 2023, following compensation and acceptance procedures completed in 2022.

The project, initiated in 2019, received an investment of 57 billion KRW and was completed at the end of October 2023. The new facilities include a central plaza (Plaza 1) and temporary parking lots (Plazas 3 and 4) at the Seodaegu Station intersection.

The Central Plaza spans 14,000㎡ and features a pleasant resting area with greenery, an outdoor stage, and walking paths.

This area will host cultural events and offer a space for community engagement and relaxation.

The temporary parking lots, covering 10,000㎡ with 276 spaces, aim to alleviate the ongoing parking shortage, particularly during weekends and public holidays.

Parking fees match those of the existing public lot on the station’s south side: free for the first 20 minutes and 200 KRW per additional 10 minutes, with a daily maximum of 10,000 KRW.

Further development is also planned. The “Second Plaza,” an additional plaza currently undergoing infrastructure preparations, will be constructed following the development of an underground parking lot, scheduled for completion in 2026 as part of the “Industrial Complex Parking Environment Improvement Project.”

As development continues around Seodaegu Station, Daegu anticipates an increase in both residents and visitors.

Additional parking solutions, including a complex transfer center, are planned to accommodate the growing population.

Once the current temporary parking lots are redeveloped into the envisioned plaza, Seodaegu Station Plaza will serve as a symbolic, integrated public space, enhancing the station area as a gateway to the city.
