Suyeong-gu Office has confirmed that the world’s first drone laser show will debut this summer at Gwangalli Beach, upgrading the city’s iconic drone show into a new nighttime spectacle.
A pilot performance is scheduled for July 5, 2025, with plans to introduce the event on a regular basis starting next year.
According to Suyeong-gu Office, the pilot version of the Gwangalli M Drone Laser Show will launch in July, blending the current drone displays with synchronized laser effects. After the trial, the district aims to hold the laser show twice a month, alternating weeks with the regular drone show schedule.
The upcoming event will feature an 18-minute combined performance, beginning with the existing 12-minute drone display followed by a six-minute laser and music show designed to light up the night sky over Gwangan Bridge and Gwangalli Beach.
Suyeong-gu plans to install six high-powered lasers and searchlights along a 250-meter stretch between the main towers of Gwangan Bridge. Preparatory work, including on-site inspections and installation checks, will begin next month.
When the show begins, the bridge, sky, sea, and coastline will be illuminated by sweeping laser beams projected into the air and onto the water beyond five meters from the shoreline. The beams will cover distances of about one kilometer, creating a wide and vivid spectacle visible from the beach, nearby cafés, and rooftops.
The laser performance will consist of three to four themed sequences, with matching music selected to fit each atmosphere. To appeal to younger audiences, particularly those in their twenties and thirties, genres like EDM and jazz are being considered to match Gwangalli’s lively festival vibe.
Suyeong-gu is also taking safety precautions seriously. Officials have instructed contractors to ensure the laser beams operate within safe wavelength limits to prevent harm to viewers. They are also coordinating with the Coast Guard to temporarily control ship movements near the performance area during the show times, ensuring a safe environment on land and at sea.
The drone laser show represents another step forward for Busan as it continues to expand its tourism offerings with innovative attractions.
