Compared to other countries, taxi fares in South Korea are an inexpensive option to consider when trying to get somewhere. However, hailing a taxi downtown can be difficult, especially Friday and Saturday nights. Here are some tips you should know before you hail a taxi.
Basically, the light on the roof of a vehicle indicates that the taxi is vacant during the night. Besides this light, a plate on the upper center of the windshield indicates whether a taxi is vacant or not. A sign (빈차) written in red indicates that the taxi is vacant, while a green plate (예약) indicates the car is occupied or reserved. And, the sign (휴무) in blue means that the taxi is off for the day. So, when you see a red light on the taxi, you’re okay to raise your hand to catch it. In Seoul, the cabs have bigger dome lights making it easier to spot which one is available for you to ride.
