The 42nd Gyeongnam Folk Art Festival, the province’s most esteemed celebration of traditional folk arts, will take place on November 19-20 at the multipurpose grass field in Hamju Park, Haman-gun.

Hosted by Gyeongnam province and co-hosted by Haman-gun and the Haman Cultural Center, this annual event was inaugurated in 1968 to preserve and celebrate the region’s rich folk art traditions, now marking its 42nd year.

This year’s festival will bring together a diverse array of folk performances from across the Gyeongnam region, highlighting the vibrant cultural heritage of the ancient capital of Ara Gaya.

Ten competition teams from various cities and counties will showcase traditional performances, including Changwon’s Yeongnam Samhoehyang Nori, Tongyeong’s Jisin Balgi, Geoje’s Nongeoyo, Uiryeong’s Jipdolgeum Nongak, and Haman’s own Bukmaegu Nori, among others.

Additionally, demonstration teams from Changnyeong and Changwon will present Gugyemokdo and Jinhae Yeondo Women’s Sangyeo Sori.

The festival offers a lively opportunity to witness Gyeongnam’s unique folk art gathered in one place, as teams engage in spirited performances and competitions.

The grand prize-winning team will go on to represent Gyeongsangnam-do at the 2025 Korean Folk Arts Festival.
