Jinjuseong and Wolasan Forest

(Jinju City)

Jinjuseong and Wolasan Forest in Jinju City have been selected as part of the ‘2025 Open Tourist Destination Creation Project,’ a national initiative by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Korea Tourism Organization.

This project aims to transform selected destinations into barrier-free spaces, allowing those with disabilities, the elderly, and families with young children to enjoy these sites with ease.

Since the project’s inception in 2015, 162 tourist sites have been upgraded to open tourism standards, with Jinjuseong and Wolasan Forest now joining the ranks.

The selection this year was highly competitive, with 35 local governments proposing 86 locations, and 20 sites were ultimately chosen nationwide.

A detailed plan will be developed this year with input from disabled individuals and Barrier-Free (BF) experts.

Enhancements at Jinjuseong will include barrier-free restrooms, additional accessible parking, and braille signage, making it easier for visually impaired visitors to access information.

Wolasan Forest plans to introduce sensory walking trails for the visually impaired, forest walks for the hearing impaired, and accessible carts and pathways, including a barrier-free deck road.

Bluetooth beacons installed at both sites will further enhance accessibility, providing location-based audio commentary to offer a fully inclusive experience for all visitors, including seniors, people with disabilities, and families with young children.
