One of the highlights of the holiday season in Korea is the beautiful illuminations that light up streets, malls, parks, and other venues across the country. Koreans fill the streets to enjoy the Christmas lights with family and friends and take memorable photos together! The following list are great places to enjoy the illuminations and other fun activities. Take a look, get out and make the holiday season one to remember!
SHOPPING MALLS
Like most countries, the holiday season is a big commercial event for shopping malls in Korea. Hanging out at a mall is great way to enjoy Christmas decorations and participate in cultural activities. The three big department store companies– Hyundai, Lotte and Shinsegae – have branches all over Korea, so you can simply pick whichever is closest. Here are seven of the most popular malls to visit now!
The Hyundai Seoul
The Hyundai malls are greatly beloved during the holiday season by young adults in Korea. This year, the Christmas theme is Harry’s Christmas Show at Le Grand Theatre, which takes you on a fairy tale journey surrounded by adorable bear decorations.
Since it’s a busy mall, they accept guests with prior reservations to enter the themed zone (5F). However, visitors without reservations are still encouraged to put their names on the waiting list. Also, you usually enter the village without a reservation from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. The mall closes at 8 p.m. or 8:30 p.m., but visitors are allowed to stay until 10 p.m. during the holiday season.

The plaza transforms into a big outdoor ice-skating rink every winter. It’s a great winter attraction where you can enjoy ice skating at low price and brilliant Christmas decorations in the evening!
Lotte World Ice Rink
