Seoul City officially began construction on the Namsan Gondola project on September 5, part of its sustainable Namsan development plan.
Set to launch in spring 2026, the gondola will connect Myeongdong Station to the top of Namsan Mountain, covering 832 meters in just five minutes.
The system will feature 25 cabins, each holding 10 passengers, with full accessibility for wheelchairs and strollers.
The design minimizes ecological and visual impacts on Namsan’s landscape, with shorter support towers and careful planning to reduce environmental disruption.
The city has committed to using all gondola revenue for ecological preservation efforts in Namsan Park.
The gondola is expected to improve access to Namsan and enhance visitor experiences by offering panoramic views of Seoul.
This project marks a significant step in revitalizing Namsan, with accompanying measures to improve park accessibility and visitor facilities.
The system aims to handle up to 1,600 visitors per hour.
