Jinju Central Market (Jinju City)
Jinju Central Market, a historic market established in 1884, is hosting a new cultural event titled Hope 1884, a retro-style draft beer festival aimed at revitalizing the market through a blend of history, nostalgia, and community engagement.
The festival will take place every Saturday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., running from May through October, except in July and August.
Located at the Jinju Road Youth Mall on the second floor of the market, the venue has been reimagined to evoke the charm of vintage street stalls in a modern setting, offering a nostalgic experience for older generations and a unique retro vibe for younger visitors.
Initiated and organized by market merchants themselves, Hope 1884 is more than just a beer event; it includes live busking performances, citizen participation programs, food experiences, and cultural activities that highlight the market’s character. It has evolved into a multi-generational cultural space, open to families, youth, and older residents alike.
The festival builds on a successful pilot held last October and is expected to complement Jinju’s popular All Night Market, contributing to the city’s growing nighttime tourism scene.
Organizers hope the event will not only invigorate the local economy but also establish Jinju Central Market as a new cultural landmark, bridging past and present through shared experiences.
