Gyeongnam Province will sequentially reopen 26 beaches across five cities and counties starting July 5, with full operation continuing through August 24, signaling the region’s official embrace of summer.

The reopening begins with 17 beaches, including Changwon’s Gwangam Beach and Geoje’s Hakdong Mongdol Beach on July 5. Six more beaches, including Sacheon’s Namildae Beach and Namhae’s Sangju Eunmosae Beach, follow on July 11, while Tongyeong’s three beaches open on July 12.

Several beaches will feature special themes designed to enhance the visitor experience. Myeongsa Beach, Korea’s first local government-operated pet-friendly beach, will again provide pet-specific facilities such as shower rooms, snack exchange stations, and play areas, along with paddle boat rides that allow pets on board.

Additional unique experiences will be available at:

  • Geoje Waehyeon Beach, designed for visitors with disabilities

  • Namhae Sangju and Songjeong, which operate as leisure healing beaches

  • Namhae Sachon, offering hands-on local experiences

To ensure safety throughout the season, the province has completed inspections of safety facilities and management systems.

A total of 189 safety personnel will be stationed across all 26 beaches. Each location is also equipped with city and county-level situation rooms, operating in cooperation with the fire department and the coast guard to monitor crowds, manage emergencies, and respond to complaints.

Officials emphasized that the goal is to maintain a safe and enjoyable beach environment, building on the province’s track record of zero fatal accidents at beaches last year.
