Gyeongnam Province announced its participation in the government’s “Chuseok Holiday Livelihood Stabilization Measures” by exempting tolls on all private roads during the Chuseok holiday.

The toll-free period will last for four days, from midnight on September 15 to 11:59 p.m. on September 18, benefiting both travelers and tourists.

During this period, vehicles equipped with Hi-pass terminals can use the Hi-pass lanes as usual, while regular vehicles without Hi-pass can pass through the regular lanes without paying tolls. Gyeongnam Province expects around 720,000 vehicles to utilize major roads such as the Machang Bridge, Geoga Bridge, and the Changwon-Busan route (Bulmosan Tunnel), resulting in an estimated savings of 1.7 billion won in toll fees for users.

The city of Changwon will also support toll exemptions for around 110,000 vehicles using private roads under its jurisdiction, including the Palyong Tunnel and the Jigae-Namsan road. The free tolls for these roads are expected to amount to approximately 110 million won, fully covered by Changwon City.

To minimize confusion and ensure smooth traffic flow, the province will promote the toll exemption through online and offline channels, including electronic road signs, banners, and websites. Additionally, road inspections and safety measures will be in place to ensure a safe and pleasant travel experience for those returning home and tourists.

In line with efforts to reduce the cost of road travel, Gyeongnam Province has already implemented a series of toll discounts, including a 20% discount on the Geoga Bridge during holidays since January last year, and a 20% discount during commuting hours on the Machang Bridge since July.

Geoje citizens have also benefitted from a 20% discount on weekday commuting tolls on the Geoga Bridge since February.
