(Geoje City)

Five local sites in Gyeongnam have been chosen for the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism’s “2025 Open Tourism Destination Creation Project.”

These selections include two sites in Jinju, one in Geoje, and two in Hapcheon, each receiving national funding and expert consulting support.

The “Open Tourism Site Creation Project” aims to make tourist locations safe and accessible for all visitors, including those who are disabled, elderly, or traveling with young children.

Through this project, pathways, ramps, and facilities are improved to provide universal access.

Since 2015, Gyeongnam Province has had 23 locations designated as “open tourist sites” out of 162 locations selected nationwide.

This year’s selection saw record interest, with applications from 35 cities and counties for 86 tourist destinations, of which 10 cities and counties were selected.

The selected destinations are Jinju (Jinjuseong and Wolasan Forest), Geoje (Geoje Botanical Garden), and Hapcheon (Hapcheon Film Theme Park and Hwangmaesan County Park).

These sites will undergo tailored facility upgrades and expand tourism experiences in consultation with accessibility and disability experts, creating a “Barrier-Free” environment for diverse visitor needs.
