The city of Busan is operating a self-reporting period for citizens who have not registered their pet dogs until September 30.
During this period, fines for failing to register pets or delayed change reports will be waived.
According to the current Animal Protection Act, dogs older than two months must be registered within 30 days of ownership or once they become eligible for registration.
Pet owners can visit designated veterinary clinics to have a microchip implanted in their dogs for registration. There are two types of microchips: internal, which is implanted, and external, which is attached as a collar. Due to the risk of loss or damage, the internal type is recommended.
Changes can be reported online via the National Animal Protection Management System (www.animal.go.kr), while changes in ownership require an in-person visit to the district or county office.
