Jinju’s Railroad Culture Park, developed on the former Jinju Station site, has received the prestigious Presidential Prize at the 2024 Republic of Korea Spatial Culture Awards.
The park was recognized for its creative design, artistic value, and significant contribution to revitalizing local culture.
Transformed from an abandoned station into a vibrant hub, the park connects Jinju’s east and west regions, which were historically divided by the railway.
Preserving the original station, vehicle maintenance shed, and 100-year-old trees, the site now hosts cultural and ecological spaces, including a wetland for endangered frogs.
The park, established with a 48 billion won investment, has already hosted events like the Jinju Craft Biennale and Youth Day, becoming a dynamic space for citizens.
The Railroad Culture Park also won the top prize at Korea’s Wooden Architecture Competition earlier this year.
The spatial photos and video of the ‘Railroad Culture Park,’ which was selected as the grand prize winner, will be exhibited at the ‘2024 Korea Architecture Festival’ held at Suwon Convention Center from November 26 to 30.
